design PROJECT
rustic modern photography studio
project overview
This project was a dream come true. I have always wanted to get my hands on an old industrial building in our steel town with an open loft style space and bring it back to life. 139 Clinton St. was built in 1890 and has lived many different lives; a variety store selling glasswear, a clothing store, a furniture store, and even served as an apartment. Now it’s living its best life as a photography studio with an attached air bnb space coming soon. I knew immediately that those bright orange walls and dark floors had to go (and my clients agreed!). We tried to sand the floors to go with a light, natural oak look but ultimately decided to white wash the entire room. I think it was absolutely the right call because the space feels SO bright—perfect for photography!
We chose to expose the brick in some areas lending to some really lovely backdrop opportunities for photos. I was commissioned to do custom artwork for the space, so all of the art you see in the photos below was done by yours truly! The art is all up-cycled which feels really special because like the building itself, those pieces were given new life. This space is truly so special. The owners of the building have the biggest heart for community and our little steel town. They have opened the space up for our local photography community to rent for their sessions. So if you’re a local photographer looking for a beautiful indoor space with plenty of gorgeous backdrop options, Bridge and Rising Studio is the place. Stay tuned for the attached air bnb space!
